Use GIMP to easily create trendy thumbnails for your Youtube videos. Your subject will have a white outline and a glowing effect behind it. I see this sort of style being utilized quite often, and by really large Youtubers. With this tutorial, you’ll be able to use it as well, and without having to spend money on Adobe Photoshop.
