This week’s location starts with an architects dream ingredient – the great South African lifestyle. From the outside, its sculptural design and strong shapes are brought to life by the changing light and shadow of the Highveld sun. Inside though, it’s a home where Linda and Evy Mahlaba love to entertain with their three children Nosipho, Thato and Zama.
Linda wanted a modern, double volume house, but what he got was so much more. Architect Lara Hood saw to that, and by working with various texture and stone, walking around the house becomes a sensuous experience, from the gentle sound of water falling, to the touch of the raw stone.
As much as Linda wanted the architecture of the house to be modern, he also wanted it to be a warm and comfortable home, filled African design. That’s where interior decorator Thobeka Swane came in. By echoing the unique shapes and features of the architecture, the interior perfectly punctuates this warm family home.
